The Traffic Accident Research at the TU Dresden GmbH is part of the joint project "GIDAS" which was initiated by the German Association for Research in Automobile- Technology "FAT" and the Federal Highway Institute of Germany "BASt".

Since July 1, 1999 traffic accidents in Dresden and the surrounding areas have been investigated, recorded and analyzed. For each accident medical students and students for automotive engineering record up to 3000 variables using the latest technical methods and equipment.

To improve both data recording and data processing in quality and quantity VUFO and Trans4mation IT GmbH developed the new data recording software "UNIDATO".

The whole GIDAS-database contains an annual dataset of 2000 traffic accidents.
