Our team records and analyzes around 1,000 traffic accidents with personal injury in the greater Dresden area every year as part of the GIDAS accident research project. Accident recording is constantly supplemented by modern survey methods in order to collect valid data to further increase road safety.

Crash reconstruction

Reconstructing traffic crashes is a complex process that brings together all available information and relevant facts from the accident scene investigation. Our focus is on clarifying the circumstances of accidents and how they unfolded.

Our data analysts conduct studies and research based on national and international data sets—with a particular focus on vehicle and traffic safety. Their findings are incorporated into laws, guidelines, advancements in vehicle safety, and preventive measures such as driver-assistance systems and autonomous driving.

Scenarios for assisted & automated driving

Our scenarios are suitable for evaluating and safeguarding driver assistance systems and automated driving functions. They are based on real accident situations from our databases. We transfer the scenarios into simulation formats using special processes.

The VUFO is committed to providing high-quality accident data, carrying out interdisciplinary research projects, developing innovative methods for data analysis and accident prevention and contributing to the design of mobility regulations. It advises industry partners and institutions on road safety issues and imparts its expertise through training courses.

We are developing a software tool that automatically converts heterogeneous EUSKa data into a uniform, analyzable data model. Through an ETL pipeline, interactive visualization, and analysis filters, it enables detailed accident analyses and bridges the gap between official statistics and in-depth data.
